Fête de la musique 2019

Every year, on June 21st, the Fête de la musique is the occasion for a friendly and festive meeting around music. Jazz, Rock, Classical, Rap… All musical genres are in the spotlight.

History of the fête de la musique

The fête de la musique was created in France in 1982 by Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture. The project was developed with the aim of promoting and democratizing the art of music. With the slogan: “Faites de la musique, fête de la musique” (Make music, music festival), the friendly and festive atmosphere of this evening naturally spreads in the minds of French people. This event has become more democratic and has even spread to Europe. It is now celebrated in more than 130 countries.

This celebration is a lasting one and is now an opportunity to listen to and discover good music, and to get together to celebrate with friends and family. It also allows you to rediscover the city while revitalizing its downtown businesses. Free, it is the celebration that offers artists, young amateurs as well as professionals, a moment to be heard by the public on stage or in the street. This cultural effervescence offers a musical world tour for the summer solstice, the shortest night of the year.

Fête de la musique in Paris: agenda of must-see concerts

For this 38th edition, the Fête de la musique returns on Friday June 21st 2019. Each city in France will celebrate the art of music. No less than 92 events are planned in and around Paris. All musical genres combined, from one street to another, going from jazz, rap and groove to rock, funk and electro. The concerts follow one another, the artists transport us and the great boulevards of Paris pulsate to the rhythm of music from all over the world. The festival will be held under the pyramid of the Louvre with a large free symphony concert given by the Orchestra of Paris. For this new edition, the Demos music education project will be presented at La Villette by the “Philharmonie de Paris”. This program targets children in working-class neighborhoods or rural areas by offering three years of classical music lessons.

If in previous years the themes of pop, voice or urban music were in the spotlight, this year 2019, the Fête de la musique will honor its gathering around: “Living music together“. This 38th edition promotes the sharing and values of openness to different cultures. In Paris, in the Île-de-France region, you can join this friendly event with following music on the program:

  • Paris 1st arrondissement: Festival 36h Saint-Eustache, musicians will make the church of Saint Eustache ring out all night long.
  • Paris 4th arrondissement: The choir’s notes: jazz and rock concert by Yves Blanchard’s choir
